What made you decide to do something
about your weight? What was your turning
point?
At that time in my life, I was
recovering from a back injury, and I had put on
30 lbs in 3 years, I had never been that heavy.
I lacked energy and was always tired. I was not
happy with myself and it was putting a strain on
my marriage. My clothes were getting tighter by
the month, and I hated to have to buy even
bigger clothes because it was not fun trying to
find clothes I would be happy with. It was
always a big disappointment, and it would cause
me to be angry with myself and those around
me.
The turning point for me: My husband
and I had purchased a new boat and I told myself
that I would not spend another summer overweight
in a bathing suit on the river. I had asked my
family doctor to please put me on some kind of
diet pills but being the great doctor he is, he
told me "NO" and to first try and change my diet
and exercise habits, that's when I decided to
take his advice and went to the local Curves and
signed up. When I visited my doctor about six
months later, he was surprised at the results
and told me " I knew you could do it" He is
still happy to see that I've kept the weight off
for 3 years.
What was really special
or unique about the Curves program? Why do you
think it worked when others did
not?
The reason I felt the Curves
program was unique was because it was all women
in the same "boat" as me, wanting to lose weight
with out having to be embarrassed by going to
gym with men and or skinny women.
I
believe whole heartedly that the Curves program
worked for me because it was and still is a very
comfortable fun environment. The machines are
easy to use and you don't have to adjust them to
fit your workout. The staff is always ready to
offer advice and or encouraging words when you
need them the most. For me, the staff makes me
feel like family, not just a member.
How has eating the Curves way helped
you change your lifestyle and lose weight? What
do you like about it?
The Curves way
of eating changed my lifestyle drastically, I
used to eat because the food tasted good, not
because I was hungry. By eating the Curves way,
I was satisfied with the meals and with the
results that I did not want to jeopardize them.
Knowing the right foods to eat and liking them
to made it so much easier.
I still eat
the Curves way for the most part. I like it
because I am able to maintain my weight loss.
When I put back on a few pounds I am able to
take it off by eating the Curves way for three
or four days and the weight comes right off
again.
What were some of the
challenges in losing weight and how did you meet
them?
The biggest challenge for me
now is keeping the weight off. Some days I have
a hard time making the right food choices, but
with the encouragement of the Curves staff they
put back on the right path. As far as the
exercise program, it was never a challenge for
me, I always made it a point for it to be the
very first thing I do in the morning. It has
been my daily routine since day
one.
What’s the difference in how you
used to feel at your old weight, and how you
feel now? What do you love about your lighter
self?
The biggest difference for me
is how much more energy I have. I'm able to go
on long walks and hustle up the stairs without
being winded. I feel as if I'm 10 years younger
now, and I know I will have the energy to run
around with my grandchildren. I feel good about
my self-appearance and I don't hate having to
try on new clothes. When I go into a dressing
room ,I know that something will fit and I will
be happy. I love to ride in our boat on the
river, I'm confident that I look good in my
bathing suit and I don't have to cover up
anymore.
Any tips or advice for your
fellow Curves members?
My advice
would be to NEVER give up. If progress is slow,
it is still progress. Get yourself weighed and
measured every month so that you will know where
you stand. It is more discouraging not to know
how you are doing. You don't know that little
changes are happening. Even if you don't see the
results in the measurements and the weight loss,
there are still changes happening inside. Your
lungs, heart, bones and muscles are getting
stronger too, and that is also beneficial to
being healthy. |
